Uganda’s opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, continued his 2026 presidential campaign trail across the western districts of Isingiro and Mbarara from November 5 to 7, attracting large crowds of enthusiastic supporters chanting for change and waving National Unity Platform (NUP) flags.

However, the campaign was marred by incidents of roadblocks and reported assaults allegedly orchestrated by groups believed to be NRM supporters, with the backing of security forces. Over 50 NUP coordinators and supporters were reportedly arrested and detained during the events.

In response, Uganda Police stated that the arrests stemmed from scuffles at unauthorized gatherings, adding that investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, the NUP leadership condemned the actions as state-sponsored intimidation, calling for the immediate release of their members and urging authorities to respect political freedoms ahead of the 2026 elections.
